Diving Deeper into Meditation

The only prerequisites for practicing meditation are sincere interest, sufficient intelligence to understand the procedure, ability to follow recommended guidelines and willingness to practice. The procedure can be learnt in a short span of time, however acquiring proficiency will require as much time as necessary for the purpose of practice to be accomplished. Progress will be slow, moderate or rapid depending upon one's intention, participation, and the transformational changes, which have to occur to allow innate knowledge and awareness to unfold or be Self - revealed.

As meditation progresses breathing becomes slower and more refined and tranquil calm becomes the prevailing mental condition providing the meditator deeper, conscious rest and renewal than usually occurs during ordinary sleep. The body's life forces become balanced contributing to organized function of physical systems. Because of physical disturbances, emotional distress or irregular sleep habits many people do not get the rest, they need when they sleep. The results may be low energy reserves, moodiness or depression, irritability, mental confusion, poor concentration, inefficient work performance, accident-prone behavior and lower resistance to illnesses. One must remember Meditation does not replace sleep, but one or two short mediation sessions a day will enliven the body, energize the mind and contribute to improved performance of activities so that regular hours of sleep can be of an interlude of undisturbed rest that is physically and mentally restorative.

Even if one is presently not interested in spiritual growth, meditation practiced for a duration of twenty to thirty minutes once or twice a day for the stress-reducing effects will greatly improve mental attitude and physical function and make it easier to accomplish purposes and to enjoy life more.

For successful results of meditation one must follow the following:
a) Commit to regular practice
b) Choose a time that will be most ideal for your practice
c) Choose a place that is comfortable and quiet, where you will not be disturbed
d) Open yourself to the Infinite
e) Practice your preferred Meditation technique
f) Conclude your practice
